Your Senior Journey
Your Senior Journey
Hi, I’m Birgit - and like many women over 50, I know what it's like to reach a new chapter in life feeling both excited and a bit unsure.
When my children left home, I was met with a mix of freedom and confusion. I started to ask myself: What now? What’s next for me?
Rebuilding a life that felt joyful, meaningful, and truly mine became my mission - and that’s what led me to create Your Senior Journey.
With a background in social pedagogy and a lifelong interest in personal development, I decided to share what I’ve been learning and experiencing. I’m not claiming to have all the answers - but I do know how powerful it is to hear from someone who's walking the same path.

I want this to be a supportive corner for women who are looking to reconnect with themselves - to feel healthier, more confident, and more inspired in their everyday lives. Whether you’re navigating life after the kids leave home, rethinking your purpose, or craving new connection, you’re not alone here.
1. Relationships After 50 – Rebuilding connection with your partner, adult children, and yourself - and exploring what love and closeness look like now.
2. Growth & Confidence – Letting go of doubt, owning your story, and discovering what’s possible when you start truly backing yourself.
3. Eat Well 50+ – Creating a peaceful, energising relationship with food and your body - without the pressure of diets or extremes.
One of the most powerful influences in my life was my sister. I lost her to illness, but her strength and optimism left a deep mark on me. She had a rare ability to find light in the darkest moments - and that resilience became something I wanted to carry forward, not just for myself but for others.
Her spirit is a big part of why I do what I do now - writing honestly about midlife, personal reinvention, grief, health, and all the messy, beautiful bits in between.
I’m originally from the Netherlands, where I studied social pedagogy in Nijmegen. I moved to the UK with my husband, raised a family, and helped run our own business. I’ve always loved creating things, connecting with people, and learning new skills - whether through writing, teaching piano, or chatting with someone over coffee.
My life hasn’t always been straightforward. I experienced bullying in my younger years, which taught me early on the value of choosing real connection over popularity. That decision shaped a lot of how I live today - grounded, open, and focused on what really matters.
Your Senior Journey is filled with ideas and support for this season of life. You’ll find tips on:
Journaling and self-care
Rebuilding routines and habits
Navigating emotional ups and downs
Mindful wellness and weight control
Real talk on relationships and confidence after 50
No fluff. No pressure. Just honest, relatable insight for women like you and me who are figuring out this next chapter one step at a time.
I’d love for you to be part of this growing community. Sign up for the newsletter, explore the blog, or reach out and say hello. Your story matters - and I’m so glad you're here.
