About Me: Birgit - Empty Nester and Advocate for New Beginnings

Hi, I’m Birgit. As an empty nester, I know how big this life change can be - and I’m here to help you turn it into an exciting new chapter.

With a background in social pedagogy, I specialise in helping women over 50 rediscover themselves, strengthen relationships, and embrace fresh opportunities. Whether you’re adjusting to an empty nest, reigniting passions, or exploring new beginnings, I’m here to guide and support you every step of the way.

This journey is both personal and deeply motivating, and I’m here to share insights, research, and practical advice that empower and uplift.

My deep belief in the power of women over 50 to continue growing and flourishing is what sets me apart.

I am passionate about creating a space where women can find connection, encouragement, and a sense of community.

I’m dedicated to helping you thrive by offering practical advice, motivation, and inspiration in areas like self-care, relationships, and discovering new passions - whether that’s embracing wellness, finding purpose, or building deeper connections in this exciting phase of life.

Note: At Your Senior Journey, I’m here not only to share advice and inspiration but also to hear from you. I want to know what’s on your mind and what you’d like to explore - whether it’s the ups and downs of being an empty nester or finding new ways to manage weight.

Please feel free to reach out with your questions, comments, or tips. Your experiences and insights are what truly shape this community, and I’d love to support you on this journey.

One of the most defining moments in my journey was losing my sister to illness.

My sister was a tremendous inspiration to me in how she approached life. Her unwavering positivity in the face of adversity was truly inspiring – especially as I'm usually the one known for having a bright outlook. Her strength encapsulated the resilience and determination of women, further solidifying my commitment to champion their stories and journeys through this blog.

Beyond my dedication to supporting senior women, I find joy and balance in teaching piano, cultivating my garden, cherishing family gatherings, and going for walks. These activities fuel my creativity and add depth and richness to my life.

Just a quick glimpse into my life: I was born in the Netherlands, had a pretty sheltered upbringing, and in my early years encountered some bullying.

Decided to ditch the whole 'clique' thing, opted for quality over quantity in friends, and voila, life got heaps better - fewer friends, but way happier.

Following my studies in social pedagogy in Nijmegen, I got a job, got married, and made the leap across the pond to the UK. I became a parent to several children.

My hubby and I ventured into our own business, where I learned the ropes of running operations, dealing with customers, and discovered my passion for selling at exhibitions. Life is on a new track now, but we're still keeping busy and enjoying life.

As the years go by, I’ve found myself asking new questions about life after the nest - what it means to create a fresh sense of purpose, build new routines, and embrace the freedom to explore new passions. It’s all about making your own path and finding joy in the next chapter, whatever that looks like.

I’ve been exploring these topics in depth and getting to the core of what really matters. The insights I’ve gathered are right here for you to check out, and I hope they’re just as valuable on your own journey.
